What is a Lactation Consultant?
A lactation consultant is a breastfeeding specialist who is professionally trained in techniques that help educate, guide and instruct mothers on ways to feed their baby.
A professional consultant helps women who have encountered breastfeeding challenges, such as latching difficulties, low milk supply and painful nursing.
A certified lactation consultant can also help with babies who aren’t gaining enough weight.
No matter what stage you are at in your journey, we offer support and guidance to address your concerns and give you real life advice to set you and your family up for feeding success.

Bio
Julia is an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant and holds a Diploma in Child Psychology. She has had the privilege of helping thousands of parents since 2010. As a passionate advocate for families, she believes that parents are the ones who know their children best! She is dedicated to using her expertise to partner with families while navigating their unique journey into parenthood.
Julia spent the beginning of her career as a founding partner of an Edmonton Breastfeeding Clinic where she cared for thousands of infant-parent dyads in partnership with a breastfeeding medicine physician. She now focuses on drawing on her 13+ years of expertise to offer respectful, evidence-based and practical solutions to all types of breastfeeding and infant nutrition challenges while centering families and their goals.
She has provided mentorship and teaching to physicians, nurses, SLPs, physiotherapists etc. in all areas of breastfeeding and infant nutrition. With significant clinical expertise and additional training in areas such as milk production, infant oral structures (ex: tongue and lip ties), choosing and using feeding tools, infant reflexes and neurobiology and development, she is here to guide you along your feeding journey (sometimes one baby step at a time).
Julia is proud member of several professional organizations such as the Institute for the Advancement of Breastfeeding and Lactation Education, International Lactation Consultant Association, Canadian Lactation Consultant Association, International Association of Tongue Tie Professionals and La Leche League Canada.
She thoroughly enjoys continuing education and keeping her skills up to date. Highlights include: spending time in Portland, Oregon with Dr Bobby Ghaheri at his ENT clinic and attending the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine Conference in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Closer to home, she was trained directly by Dr Alison Hazelbaker as a validator and assessor using the Hazelbaker Assessment Tool for Lingual Frenulum Function (HATLFF) through the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Calgary in 2018-2019. This tool is now used as part of the AHS South-Zone Ankyloglossia Protocol in assessment and treatment of infants with oral restrictions (aka Tongue Ties and/or Lip Ties).
When she is not working, she is trying to keep up with her two active kids in the Mill Creek ravine, enjoying a third cup of coffee or doting on her many (but never too many) houseplants!
